TheWildClassroom Intro Video

We're only a month late, but we've finally finished the introductory video for our newest site, www.thewildclassroom.com. Basically we took some of the random video sequences from our previous expeditions and compiled them together with Hazen explaining about what we do. In many ways we hope that this approach to natural history will be a success with teachers and students.

From my own personal point of view, I just want to share science with as many people as possible. I'm only in my third month as a graduate student in the new Montana Wildlife and Natural History filmmaking program and I'm already getting antsi feet. I can't wait to get out and do more science. It seems like so much of what we do is theory and humanities. For the last 10 years I've done about as much as I could do to stay away from that. I've studied science textbooks, volunteered and studied in the field, just to learn more about animals. It doesn't help that Montana's winters make it difficult to find bugs, frogs or any other small ectothermic creatures. the only thing that saves me is that we're only about 50 miles from Yellowstone, so I've had a few filmming trips down there. Unfortunately, its technically illegal to film in the park without paying a 200 dollar permit fee. What a load of crap! Its supposed to be for the people's enjoyment ... of which I'm a person too! Ok, I'm starting to rant.

Till next time, ... you know how it goes.

Hazen Audel, Rob Nelson and Jonas Stenstrom begin the Wild Classroom content

During the summer of 2005 Hazen Audel with Rob Nelson finally started www.thewildclassroom.com. This new educational site will help teachers to better educate kids about issues in Biology. Our goal is to create content that is not only educational, but fun for kids. If its not fun, noone is going to want to get involved. The goal is not to just promote education on the web, but to instead travel the country and make appearences at schools who are using our content. To make a difference, this is a must.

Explore Biodiversity begins planning for new Expedition

There has never been a better time to be into biology. Granted, there are a lot of problems, but at the same time, we live in the information age and Explore Biodiversity is all about sharing knowledge.

As we speak, our team is planning an expedition through the Americas whereby we will ride from Tierra del Fuego to the tip of Alaska to 1) learn about grassroots conservation efforts that are occuring in developing countries and 2) to bring back what we learned to Developed countries from the United States, to Australia and Sweden!

We can't talk much more about it now, but be sure that we'll keep you posted when we get it planned. If you'd like to be part of our mission, please email me at rob((at)explorebiodiversity.com.

Till next time ... I encourage you to Explore your World.
